This kitchen dining area had an existing fireplace that dominated the room in all the wrong ways — taking up valuable square footage and leaving the space awkward and underutilized. The homeowners had a clear vision: a proper place to eat near the kitchen, more storage, and a smarter entry point into the home. We worked with them closely to design a solution that addressed all of it. Out went the fireplace. In went a custom built-in banquette for dining, integrated shelving to maximize every wall, a new back door, a dedicated command station for things that pile up the moment you walk in the door, and a faux mudroom feature designed to function like a full mudroom despite the limited space. The finished room is cozy, organized, and completely transformed — more functional than it’s ever been, and a space the homeowners actually want to spend time in.
